Roger Federer was awesome in his Day 8 schooling of
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, and a lot of people were throwing their
verbal fists in the air because of it.

Roger Federer played his best match in
nobody knows how long on Day 8 of the Australian Open, as he
schooled Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga like it
was 2004 or 2005 or 2006 or 2007—well, you get the picture, the
man turned back the clock violently. It truly did look like the
Federer of old (and many hope, the Federer of the near future)
with a few new wrinkles, but mainly the same old genius and
free-flowing artistry that has been blowing minds ever since
the Mighty Fed rose to the top of tennis pantheon in the mid
2000’s.
And, just like during the days of old when Roger ruled the
roost, fans were genuflecting verbally, and oozing praise for
the mythical game of the maestro.
On Twitter, you didn’t need to look far to find high praise and
a healthy, heaping portion of Fed worship.
Eleventh straight year that Federer has reached QF or
better in Melbourne. The bar just keeps getting higher for
sustained excellence

Even if he can’t win the title, tennis the way Federer
plays it is just a joy to watch. Long may it last

Don’t know if, style-wise, #Federer
could do this against #Nadal,
but it’s utterly jaw-dropping in its brilliance. Never looked
better.

And there was a bit of praise for new coach Stefan
Edberg also, thanks to Federer’s fantastic numbers at
the net (34 of 41 at the net in three sets?).
Federer closes in3 sets 63 75 64 with amazing % on net
approaches. Thanks Stefan Edberg?

Good news for Fed fans: your man is up 2-0. Bad news:
Stefan Edberg will be fielding an offer from the Cleveland
Browns tomorrow

Yes, Fedberg appears to be off to a good
start in Melbourne.

And of course, the new racket deserves some props as well.
Nobody could possibly play that well on talent alone,
right?
You would think once Fedfan new prototype @WilsonTennis stick
hits the market I am sure it will fly off the shelf

This is like product placement for them fancy 98-inch
rackets….

And, in case you missed it, here’s a highlight of Fed
throwing up a beautiful backhand topspin lob over Tsonga’s head.
Ah, we could hear the angels singing when he hit that should,
couldn’t you?
