Editing YouTube Tennis Videos – v1.0

Overview:

YouTube allows these key steps to processing uploaded videos from tennis matches:

  1. Annotate the match details
  2. Trim the warm-up footage
  3. Assign to a Playlist
  4. Enhance the colors and lighting
  5. Stabilize, if necessary

Prerequisites:

The video must be fully uploaded to YouTube under the GTN account.

Steps:

Annotate the match details

  1. Go to Video Manager> Videos and choose to Edit the particular video from the list shown.
  2. Click the Annotations tab at the top nav menu.
    1. Find the point where the first point is played and back up to the greater of either 30 seconds or where the players have started to get up from their side bench/chairs. Look for players walking from the side bench to the court, then back up. Make t an easy time code to remember (full seconds, rather than splits, for instance). Remember this starting point for later on when you trim the warm up from the video.
    2. Add a Title annotation with the first initial and last names of the players and schools.
    3. Add a Spotlight annotation with the event name, winner (school) and score, the location, and YYYY-MM-DD format date of the match.

    4. Notes:
      1. Use the timecodes to synch the Title and Spotlight visibility.
      2. Stretch the graphic boxes end to end on the video to allow for the most characters displaying while keeping the info centered.
    5. Click the “Apply Changes” button in the top right corner of the page to save and complete this step.

Trim the warm-up footage

  1. Click the Enhancements tab at the top nav menu.
  2. Click the Trim button located toward the bottom right middle of the screen.
  3. Find the time code where you’d like the video to begin, based on where you placed the annotation placement. Note that the video quality will be poor only because it is using the lowest quality resolution for this display.
  4. Click the Pause button in the main video playback area.
  5. Click the Split icon. As you hover over it, the word “Delete” will appear.

  8. Click the “Save” button in the top right corner of the page to save and complete this step.

Enhance the colors and lighting

  1. While in the Enhancements area, the video will automatically play with a split screen to allow you to see the difference your changes would make.
  2. Click “Auto Fix” to make the corrections.
  3. This will take time to process, so you will be brought to the video manager list page.

Stabilize, if necessary

  1. While in the Enhancements area, the video will automatically play with a split screen to allow you to see the difference your changes would make.
  2. If the camera was not mounted to a stationary monopod stand or fence, clicking the Stabilize button will improve the video quality. If it is already stable (as we expect 95% of the tennis videos to be), please skip this step.
