For his Spanish speaking fans, Nadal released this video on
YouTube, announcing withdrawal from Buenos Aires.

The 13-time Grand Slam champion had planned to practice on
Thursday and Friday with the hopes of then flying to make his
appearance at the clay court event, but a stomach virus delayed
his plans to practice.

Nadal injured his back in last month’s Australian Open final,
but medical scans have revealed no serious problems or
complications with the injury. Nadal was in Barcelona this week
to receive a Mundo Deportivo award for sports
excellence
.

He said during an interview with COPE radio in Barcelona that
the last two and a half sets of his four-set loss in the final
with Stan Wawrinka “was the worst hour and a half that I have
spent on a tennis court.”

Nadal is still expected to make the trip to South America for
the Rio Open in Brazil, which begins on Monday, February 17th.
